What do I do with the Certificate of Installation?
Return the completed Certificate signed and dated to the Plasteel® Tank manufacturer. Upon receipt of Certificate, the Plasteel® Tank manufacturer will issue the Limited Plasteel® Tank Warranty to the tank owner.
Do I need additional corrosion protection such as a Cathodic Protection system or electrical isolation devices when installing a UL Listed Plasteel® tank?
No. The Plasteel® Elutron® FRP Jacketed Tank and Plasteel Composite® Double Wall Tank do not require Cathodic protection or other isolation devices. Plasteel® Tanks are UL Tested and Listed per UL Standard 1746, Part II (Composite) and Part III (Jacketed). UL does not evaluate or test composite tanks and jacketed tanks with cathodic protection and/or isolation devices. The UL Listed Plasteel® FRP laminate is a stand alone corrosion protection system that completely encapsulates and isolates the inner steel tank from exterior corrosion.
What are the Roark Equation and External Pressure Test (EPT) about?
The Roark Equation is the UL specified formula for calculating the minimum steel thickness of the tank’s primary (inner) shell.
The EPT is an optional performance test to validate an interior (primary) tank stiffener system. The primary tank shell thickness may be reduced a maximum of 25 % from the calculated Roark Equation thickness if the stiffener system has been UL PerformanceTested and Listed.
Plasteel International Inc. has a UL Tested and Listed Stiffener System. With the UL Stiffener System, Plasteel® Tanks will not buckle when submerged, without backfill, in water at a depth of 5 feet (1.53m).
Consult the Plasteel® Tank manufacturer regarding the stiffener design for your Plasteel® Tanks.
How do UL Listed Plasteel® tanks compare to UL Listed Non-Metallic or FiberGlass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks?
Plasteel® Tanks and FRP tanks are both UL Tested and Listed for structural performance and corrosion protection. Plasteel® Tanks compared to FRP tanks have a significant cost advantage in the UST installation process. Please go to the Product Comparison link for cost advantages when installing the Plasteel® Tank Technology.
Is a UL Listed Plasteel® tank compatible with 85% Ethanol (E-85) and other alternative fuels?
Yes. Plasteel® Tanks are compatible with 85% ethanol (E-85) and other blends of ethanol and methanol up to 100%. Plasteel® Tanks are also compatible with all biodiesel blends (B5-B100).
Is a UL Listed Plasteel® Double Wall tank compatible with continuous interstitial vacuum monitoring?
Yes. Plasteel® Elutron® and Plasteel Composite® Double Wall Tanks are compatible with continuous interstitial vacuum monitoring systems.
How do I choose a compatible secondary containment tank sump?
The sump must have a compatible design to attach to the Plasteel®Tank top. You must consult with the Plasteel® Tank manufacturer to determine if the specified tank sump requires the installation of a sump attachment collar in the factory. The Plasteel® Tank manufacturer can provide a Plasteel® FRP composite collar welded to the tank top or an FRP collar fiberglassed onto the tank top.
Typically, which product safety standards are required for regulatory compliance by each Plasteel® Licensee?
Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Standard for Steel Underground Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids (UL Standard 58) and UL Standard for External Corrosion Protection Systems for Steel Underground Storage Tanks (UL Standard 1746).
How do I establish “Credit Terms” with a Plasteel® Licensee?
You must contact the Plasteel® Tank manufacturer directly. Each Licensed Plasteel® Tank manufacturer is independently owned and has a specific company policy for establishing credit terms.
Does a Plasteel® Licensee have any restrictions on sales and shipments of Plasteel® tanks?
There are no geographical restrictions for the sale or shipment of Plasteel® Tanks.
Where is the U.L. Listing Label actually located on Plasteel® tanks?
The UL Listing Label will be affixed on the tank top longitudinal centerline. If the tank has an open bottom containment sump, the UL Label could be affixed inside the sump attachment collar. This would provide direct access to the UL Label from grade level after the tank is installed.
How do I obtain a calibration chart for a Plasteel® tank?
Contact the Plasteel
® Tank manufacturer for the calibrated chart. You must provide the primary (inner) tank inside diameter and inside length to create an accurately calibrated chart. If you have these dimensions, you may create and print the chart using the Tank Calibration Charts link on the
Data Finder link on this website.
Can I specify a Plasteel® Elutron® FRP Jacketed Tank with dished heads?
Yes. Plasteel® Tank manufacturers can accommodate this request.
